So, I'm a (mostly) hobby baker making a wedding cake.  It is semi-naked, 3 tiers, and decorated with fresh flowers.  I need a new turntable, and the clients like the look of those 'wood slab' cake stands.  Lo and behold, I come across this:

What do y'all think?  Would it be sturdy enough to support a 3 tier cake?  Would the spinning ability cause it to be annoying/unstable?

Thanks!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the cake will have SPS so no worries with the internal support.  :)

great idea -- just depends on if the mechanism is wobbly or not -- but no worries -- shim it -- like just stack up cardboard circles that have a hole cut out for the smaller thing underneath -- it will stand ok -- and cake servers usually love the ease of being able to turn the cake on a turntable to slice & serve it

this is smaller but they have these too:

Thanks for the reply!  Do I need to shim it if the mechanism is sturdy?  It doesn't appear to be too high, either....

I've got a wooden slab like in the picture but nobody has ever asked me to have a cake spin on the display cake table... I don't think I'd really want to do that to be honest, sometimes a cake has a definite 'back' to it (and sometimes not, of course). I'm just not seeing the need for it to be spinning on the cake table while on display??

well yeah it should only need shimming if it needs it -- but to ensure the right side of the cake stays where it needs to be -- I mean you only turn it when it's time to serve -- nobody can come up and give it a twirl kwim

Hahahaha, oh dear...  I've delivered cakes to a few venues in certain parts of town where the groom and his groomsmen have been downing the drinks early. I've no doubt if they knew a cake could be given a twirl they would - and then see just how fast they could twirl it until it fell to pieces!! Oh that might just give me cakemares!!  Hahaha!!
