I am making a Homer Simpson birthday cake .. I have finished the topper...Homer is a fondant/gum-tex model sitting in a chair with donuts, remote..the usual stuff (I am pleased with him)

The cake will be chocolate upon request, but I am drawing a complete blank on how to decorate the sides of the cake....any suggestions?

I thought for the borders I would make donuts from either fondant or tootsie rolls but I am open to suggestions.

I have to take the cake to work on Thursday morning..

Thanks in advance
Jane

Duff Beer cans or just outlines of Homer's face in RI.

This sounds like fun, I want to make a Homer cake!

I saw a huge cutout at the movie theater the other day that was Homers hand reaaching for donuts. I'd say a pile of donuts or a few so they look like they are bouncing around. Like with the little lines that are in kids books to show movement.

Good luck - sorry I couldn't hep more - I never watched it!

I think you could have it all:

The donuts AND Duff beer! Then the letters, "DOH"

Too funny! Can't wait to see it!!

I'd alternate with a few of his favorite things: donuts, bowling ball, beer, remote control, etc.

My first thought was donuts as well! Mmmm....donuts. Or you could do sky and clouds like the intro to the show.

Thanks for your input everyone...I ended up decorating the sides with Tootsie Rolls that I nuked for 15 sec and then shaped into donuts (made the hole with a skewer)...then I iced them in pink and added sprinkles - Homer style.... I also put the word...D'oh...in between the donuts...

Anyhow..thanks again!!!!

OH man that is one awesome cake! I've said a number of times that while I don't work in fondant, I do respect the work of those who do. This cake is a prime example of what I mean.

I am in awe!!!!!!!!!
