Hello all, I have a customer who wants a complementary cake tasting for her order of 6' cake and 49 cupcakes. I am new at this business and never heard of free cake tasting unless is for a wedding with over 100 guest. what are the guidelines in this case? Do I have to provide free cake tasting for cupcakes or small cake orders? Thank you in advance.

Oh heck no!  I agree, the only time tastings are offered are for wedding cakes and there is a charge for the tasting, usually around $35 to $50 for three or four people.  If the wedding cakes is ordered, the cost for the tasting is generally waived.  That being said, I am a hobby baker only, but I have many professional friends, and this is how they handle tastings.  A complimentary tasting for a 6" cake and cupcakes, dream on sister!

Absolutely not. I've only done tastings for wedding cakes. For celebration cakes I've never offered, nor have I ever been asked.

The bakery I worked at charged $40 for cake tasting and it included 2-3 different cake/icing combinations. If the person booked a cake, then depending on the cost of the final cake, a portion or all (for higher priced wedding cakes) of the $40 would be put towards the final cost of the cake.
