I have a wedding cake to do next month and would like y'alls help. Bride wants this burlap with a lace on top, all the stores are carrying a ribbon like this.  Also she HATES fondant.  So I thought was to use sugarveil for the burlap and modeling chocolate for the lace.  Does anyone think this will work? BTW I've never used sugarveil.

I've seen a fondant model that looks like burlap, or maybe it was a lace mold, don't remember.  Whichever, you could make the burlap from the model, then add a piece of lace, made with cake lace (Sugar Veil, or whatever brand) over the top of it.  Should look very much the same as the commercial, real ribbon.

There's a great lace mat you can use for burlap - I  just colored my lace mix off white and touched up with cocoa to match the burlap used for decorating.  And there are tons of pretty lace strips you can make in white to "glue" on the burlap.  It goes on a buttercream cake beautifully.

They have the burlap lace mold on Amazon at a reasonable price.
