I need to make some cupcakes with a domed topper and I see that some people dry the fondant over a foam ball.  Those are kind of pricey so I was wondering if a Styrofoam ball would work.  I was thinking I could cut a flat bottom and cover it with plastic wrap first.  Other then forming by hand...of which mine I don't quite trust...anyone have any ideas for tip and tricks for this?  Thanks in advance!

You don't really need to form and then dry out the fondant.  Just cover the top of the cupcake with rolled out fondant and decorate as normal...https://www.craftsy.com/cake-decorating/article/how-to-cover-a-cupcake-in-fondant/
