Thinking of purchasing a Canon ts620 for edible images, what cartridges do I buy? Is there another printer that's better
While there is a lot of information on edible printer on this site, some of it may be a bit outdated. Take a look at the dates and if its over about 2 years, it may be outdated. Edible printing is great if you print. Icing Images recommends when using their ink that you print about 2-3 times per month. Other companies inks may vary in time. If you are not going to print that often, do not get one, just have someone print for you.
Edible inks are the most important part of your
edible printer along with the printer brand. We recommend Canon
Printers because of the removable printhead for easy cleaning. Epsons
do not have this feature and while they do work with edible printing, we
still do not find them reliable enough not to have this feature. The
edible inks will make or break your edible printing experience. People
get all excited when they find cheap edible ink on ebay or amazon. Well
with ebay and amazon, you really don't know if the ink is food grade, if
it uses FDA approved products, is made in a food safe environment or is
any good. Icing Images not only has been in business offering quality
edible ink with FDA approved ingredients, but we voluntarily applied for
our facility that handles the products to be Kosher approved. So not
only are our edible inks and edible icing sheets monitored by the FDA,
Kosher OU organization, but also the department of agriculture and we
voluntarily had our edible inks submitted for an independent FDA
certified lab insuring that our edible inks are safe, quality truly
edible products without any contaminants. We constantly test our edible
inks for quality and clogging making our inks reliable as well as as
close to true as we can possibly get. So whether you purchase your
edible printer from another source, you really should insist on only
using Icing Images Brand edible inks. Oh, to save money, Icing Images
offers refillable cartridges that will bring your edible ink pricing
down to pennies!
Next are edible paper. There are a bunch of types of different types. Icing Sheets aka frosting sheets, sugar sheets. Wafer paper aka rice paper (different thicknesses too), Flexfrost edible fabric, transfer sheets aka Simi Transfer sheets or Chocolate transfer sheets.
The Icing Sheet there are different
manufacturers of Icing Sheets. Icing Images sells their version of the
Premium Icing Sheet (other distributors also call theirs premium so you
need to be sure that you are using an Icing Images brand Icing Sheet.
It is a thicker version of the frosting sheet that has an easy peal
backing. It does not fall off the backing easily nor does it crack
easily. It has a great vanilla flavor and holds up well when a bag is
left open accidentally. Icing Sheets come precut for cupcakes, cookies
etc and is mainly used for laying an image on a cake.
Wafer Paper is a potato based edible paper that is often confused with rice paper. The majority of the wafer paper sold is a potato based. All of Icing Images Wafer is flavored with vanilla and is very fresh. It comes in colored as well as white and is now available in a Double thickness. Wafer paper stands off a cake or cupcake and will not have as good of quality as the icing sheet when laid flat.
Flexfrost is an edible fabric and Flexfrost sold by Icing Images is the only one with Icing Images Vanilla Truffle Flavor. It doesn't have the after taste that other versions of the Flexfrost has from other distributors. This is an edible fabric that can be printed on and comes in several different metallic colors as well as white. In addition to being used as fabric in decorating, scraps of this paper can be dipped in water and laid out on a lace mat which will create an edible lace without any mixing or measuring.
Transfer sheets come in two types. A traditional chocolate transfer that is made from cocoa butter and the Simi Transfer Sheet. The Simi Transfer sheet has no cocoa butter and is used with hot mediums such as isomalt, decogel, chocolate or baking meringue on.
Service is also a key element in partnering with an edible supply and equipment company. All icing images calls are taken in their Winchester, VA office in the USA from 9-5 Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday. After hours Icing Images has a staff of people monitoring their social media pages from all parts of the US to be available most of the time after hours. Our staff is highly trained and pleasant. Icing Images takes pride in their service. We always suggest before buying that you call an edible printing company and ask a few questions so you can see who will be there for you in your time of need.
