I am making a 3 tier 50th Anniversary cake for my in-laws. It is going to be a small party with around 60 people. I will not be serving the cake. We plan on letting some of my niece's friends serve. There are all around 19 and 20 years old. How do you inform guests that each tier has a different layer without having to repeat it 60 times for each guest? Do you use a cute chalkboard sign beside the cake? It is my first rodeo.
I think a nice sign is a great way to let everyone know what the different flavors are.
Or have a small sign for each flavor and then have the ladies cutting the cake slice each tier up and place the flavors in groups behind those small signs. This way they won't have to ask each person what flavor that they want. Instead guests can walk up to the dessert table and grab a slice of whatever flavor whenever they want.
I recently did a 50th wedding anniversary cake with four different flavors. We sliced some of each and had them on plates for the guests to see, but we still identified the flavors many times, which wasn't really a problem. The sign idea sounds like a good one.
plan on having lots of extra servings because some people will want to sample more than one flavor -- some people will take it as a personal challenge to try them all
Yes, I unstacked it to serve. It is so much easier than trying to cut it still stacked and I guess it would have been impossible for people to choose their flavor, if they weren't all cut at the same time.
You are very welcome, Jlb136. Can't wait to see your masterpiece!
