My microwave is broken and won't be fixed before my next cake. Has anyone ever melted marshmallows in a glass bowl over a pot of boiling water for mmf? I am wondering if it will work, or if I need to go to my dad's house to use his and make a bunch of mmf in advance.

i've melted marshmallow in a heavy pot for rice krispie treats -- it will be muy sticky -- for fondant i'd use mini marshmallows but any size would work -- on the lowest flame possible and watch it but just let it melt -- it would work --

I do my marshmallows straight in a large pot on the stove.  Just use a low setting and stir, stir, stir.

I now use the microwave, but back in the day, I did just as whatthedogate said, melt in a large pot over a low heat and stir continually until melted.  Almost as easy as the microwave method.

I ended up using a double boiler method because I needed to add red candy wafers and I was worried that the wafer would burn. It worked great! I did have ro let it sit a bit longer because it came out hotter than when I used a microwave.
