My cousin just asked me for this cake for Christmas. I’m kind new to decorating (started seriously learning it earlier this year) I know all the techniques for what this cake has in buttercream. What I’m unsure about is what the antlers and ears are.

i assume the ears are fondant with gold dust on the inside part. But what about the antlers? Can they be done with fondant? Chocolate covered in gold dust? Or are they something else?

I would use cardboard or heavy duty paper of some sort. I bet you could find something at any craft store, Michael's, JoAnn, or hobby lobby.

Another idea is to check pinterest and see what other people used

I'm making this cake, too! I'm doing the antlers out of white chocolate. I don't think the antlers in the photo are fondant.

I saw another one on Pinterest where the antlers were cookies.  So from gold paper attached to a heavier cardstock/foamcore to edible - the choice is yours !  You can get the gold color from edible paint, edible spray gold paint (which you can spray over buttercream or fondant) or make the antlers brown!

For the ears, mix your fondant with a little cornstarch so it will be stronger and more like gumpaste - they'll harden a bit and won't be floppy.  Either way you can put them right on top of the cake or make them attached to a short wooden skewer or longer toothpick so they can stick into the cake.

It's a cute cake good luck!
