I made some succulents a few days ago with fondant and tylose.  I don't have experience applying color dust, but I'm having a hard time getting it to stick to the dry fondant.  Should I be moistening the parts where I want color before dry brushing them?  Any tips are appreciated.

Add it and then lightly steam to set the color.

Also if you wet it, the dust looks more like paint.

Sorry I keep thinking of things.  Lol

Its also important to have a color darker than you fondant/Gumpaste.

I don't recommend wetting your gum paste, @crnewbold ‍.  I think that will just make a mess.  It is best to apply dusts while the piece is still fairly soft, but if you are persistent, the dried pieces will eventually take the color.  It might also be helpful to apply as much color as you can, then steam the piece.  Once it has thoroughly dried, try adding a bit more color.

Thank you both.  I'll just keep trying and definitely steam (and let dry) until I get a deep enough color.  The colors definitely contrast, so it's not a matter of being too similar.

After giving this some thought, I had an idea . . . I used foam cosmetic wedges and it worked.  Since I was only trying to color the edges, and the edges were sorta thick, I was able to use firm short strokes. I have steamed them and am crossing my fingers.

Fabulous!  Necessity is the mother in invention, so they say!  Thanks for the tip.
