I have a groom's cake due in July. The cake is supposed to look exactly like a Copenhagen snuff can of chew. My question is can I cover the cake in Black fondant and just paint the lid with silver luster dust or should I just cover the side of the cake black and the top in a different color so I can paint it silver?

Sure can - if you look at the car cake pictures in my gallery it is black fondant under the silver.

I have not painted black fondant silver, but I have painted it gold and it works beautifully.
