I'm making a bunny head out of cereal treats and covering in fondant. I then want to make the long ears (probably 6" tall) out of melting chocolates and attach to the fondant covered head.  Any suggestions?

I've heard once cereal treats harden there's no way to push an object into them.  The white chocolate ears will be too thin to hide a dowel in.  Maybe hide a Popsicle stick but then how do I push into hard cereal treats?Need To Attach 6" Long Bunny Ears To Cereal Treat Head Covered In Fondant,

Are you set on making them out of chocolate? If you did with fondant you could add the dowels and put them in the head during creating. Rice cereal treats harden like a brick!  I would use modeling chocolate in place of fondant so that you can easily mold them around the ears.

I'd use a mix of fondant/gumpaste and modelling choc so you get the nice taste (I'm guessing they'll be eaten which is why you're thinking of using the chocolate in the first place?) and have skewers inside them. I'd also use other skewers to make the holes in the cereal treat head before it sets fully, then you can cement the ears in once they're dry with melted choc or RI.

Actually they won't be eaten, I just don't know how else to make them so they're stiff yet look nice

In that case I would go with gumpaste so it sets nice and firm. Roll it out so it's a little thicker at the base where it will attach to the head, cut out your ear shapes and shape them and then insert your skewers or whatever you want to use,  then leave to dry for a few days. You would only need to go about halfway up the ear if you use gumpaste. Hope that helps!

So far so good.  First time working with gumpaste. I know it is FAR from perfect, but it's for my 4 yo's bday and I'm ok with that.  I'm already the only parent that's made a homemade cake and I like that mine will look homemade ;) Need To Attach 6" Long Bunny Ears To Cereal Treat Head Covered In Fondant,

Hopefully it's not too late but the skewers/supports need to be put in the ears as you make them, the ears alone will not be strong enough to stand upright as they will be too heavy/tall and narrow to connect to the head with anything that does not run up the ear a bit.

if you need to, flip the ears over and roll out another piece of gumpaste to attach to the back of the ear with your supports sandwiched in between.

They are looking cute :-)

So far so good!! I was able to cut a well for each eat out of the cereal treat head and then did the same with the fondant. Then I am using melted white chocolate to glue the ears into the well.Need To Attach 6" Long Bunny Ears To Cereal Treat Head Covered In Fondant,
