Hi there,

I just ordered tips that make flowers quickly, you know the large ones that with one squeeze, you have a rose, tulip, etc??? Well, my buttercream isn't work with it. I tried to make it stiffer and still no luck. Has anyone tried to use these tips? What type of buttercream was successful to use them? I need another recipe I think. Thanks so much!

If so there is a ton of tutorials on Youtube demonstrating how they used them. There is even a tutorial where one shows you how well they work with each type of buttercream.

Hope that helps!

Your welcome!

My favorite American Buttercream recipe is actually Krazy Kool Cakes from Youtube. It has been my all time favorite and now my go to for everything. I absolutely love their videos!

I believe in the video she credits Edna De La Cruz for the recipe, who if I am correct is a member of CC as well! smile

Dede234d, I've never mixed light purple and light brown frosting, but I've mixed an awful lot of oil paint and purple and brown make ugly mud.  Not a good idea.  What color are you trying to achieve?

Oh, I misunderstood your question, Dede234d!  I thought you meant literally mixing the two colors together but I think you mean using the two colors together on one cake - is that correct?  If that is the case, I think they would be lovely together, particularly if your brown tends toward a soft gray-brown (taupe) which would compliment the richer color of the purple.  I would probably go with a medium tone for the purple instead of very pale.

I still think mixing the two colors would be yucky, but it would be a light yucky.  Why not make a small amount of fondant or gum paste in the two colors so you can see how you like them side by side, then try mixing them to see the resulting color (I'm thinking yucky, haha).  Oh....or buttercream!  I just realized I don't know what medium you are using, but all the same would hold true for buttercream.

Some say when using russian tips to pipe the flower rather quickly and pull up. Also buttercream has to be kind of thick for the flower to stay in the shape. Post pictures and let us know how it goes!!! Good luck!!! You can do it!!!

No Dede234d, I do not think the purple would be at all discernible if mixed with brown.  I think you would get a muddy, sort of taupe color.
