I saw a post about the best edible image printer that said:" I'm in the market for an edible image printer and I'm just trying to get some advise on the best one to buy and all I'll need to get started. Thanks in advance!" -kendra_83 This post it's from 2011.
My question is... It's the Canon MP560 still the best choice or are they new and better models you ladies recommended I buy? What else I'll need to buy?
I can't answer as to what the current best on the market is, but I can tell you that I don't recommend the Canon 6820 wide format. I bought this one because I wanted the rear feed, which none of the other models have, and because I liked the idea of being able to print wide format images. I have had nothing but problems since I have had it. The print quality is terrible and it constantly misfeeds. When I first got it, it mis-fed an edible image sheet of small circles, and left small pieces of the image sheet in the paper feed that kept coming out with new prints for weeks. There is no way to open up the back of the printer to clear misfeeds, so you can only pull from the front and hope you get all the pieces. I have had it since January, and just a couple days ago it mis-fed again and now has an error light that won't clear, even after the unit has been un-plugged and disconnected from the computer. There is no paper stuck in it, and paper feeds through when you power it down and back on again, but the error won't clear. It is basically un-usable at this point. As for the print quality, although when you print a test page there are no lines indicating that it needs a nozzle cleaning, the print color is very light, and when you are trying to color match, the colors are nowhere near to the color of your original images. I have tried both the Kopycake ink and the Icing Images ink, and I don't think the ink is the problem- it is the printer not feeding enough ink. I used to have the Canon IP3600 and never had a single problem with it for 4 years, so I am very disappointed in this Canon.
Hi
The Canon ix6820 is not as good as the other current models, but it isnt horrible. You have to have the correct settings for that printer. If you need the wide format, it is the only option. It isn't that Canon is a bad choice, it is still the best choice for edible printing. It is the only printer with a removable printhead which is key for maintenance. That being said, Canon has two edible printers. The mg6620 and the new ts5020. neither of which will print on the large sheets, but it will print as big as the legal size 8.5"x14". The MG series is a work horse and prints beautiful pictures on the right settings. It has been around for quite some time and is a good printer. The TS is new. It is rear feed, it has to be on different settings then the MG series. It is a more compact printer. I have tested this printer for over a month and it is a good printer as well. But again, you have to have the correct settings. Sayitwithfrosting, you are welcome to call my office if you haven't already to be sure that the settings are correct on your printer. You could have gotten a bum printer and with the feed issue, Canon should replace it for you.
Please let me know if you have any further questions!
