Painted Fondant Too Dark.

I've made a 3D pug cake for my sons' birthday. I dusted the fondant with powder colour but it's too dark. How can I lighten the brown since it's already on the cake? I'm thinking maybe dust with white or cream powder. What do you think?

You could also roll out a thin layer in the lighter colour and put it on top

Either that will work or try taking a paper towel and very lightly try to rub some off. Hope it works!
