Does anyone have any suggestions for a cake with no flowers? I need something simple, for a woman, but I don't have the tips to make roses or drop flowers. I am out of ideas! I have never done the cornelli lace before, I may try it as a last resort, but I would love to hear your suggestions. TIA!

Something with basketweave maybe...basketweave with strawberries... or a fondant loop bow with bead border. Does she have any hobbys you can do a BCT for?? scrollwork, brushed embroidery..

Let's see... shell borders...swiss dots. Or how about autumn leaves? thumbs_up.gif

Try the cornelli lace...it is very easy to do! You could even bring the cornelli lace down from the top and scallop around the sides, about halfway and trim it with a bead edge..you could use just about any tip for the edge. finish it off with a bottom shell border.

Try a hat or purse cake with jewels instead of flowers. Toba Garrett and Dede Wilson have lots of ideas without flowers.

Cornelli lace is easy to do and very elegant. Corn syrup helps make the buttercream manageable. Chocolate dipped strawberries in chocolate and white would make the cake look elegant, or you can decorate it with a shell border and pour a chocolate ganache over it. It looks great! Good luck. There are many recipes for ganache on the web. Try the site www.baking911.com and www.sugarcraft.com for great icing recipes to use with ganache. Good Luck.

I just got the Toba Garrett book on decorating cakes from the library today and ttb is right, she has some beautiful cakes with borders and piping and no flowers. Her book is fascinating. thumbs_up.gif
