I had an oreder for 30 decorated cookies. I told the lady to pick them up after 3 pm that they'd be dry by then (last friday). They were in another room under a fan all that day - trying to speed drying as it is. Then at 2:50 I started putting them in boxes for her b/c she was almost due to come by. SO I turn my back for .000001 seconds and my 2.5 year old grabbed one faster than I could think and took a bite out of one! The lady was due in 5 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost had a heart attack! I sent my daughter to her room to think about what she did (aka savoring that one bite is probably all she thought about). I just HAPPENED to have one cookie left! I wrote my husbands name on it as a little treat - so i had to scrape off his name and ice up another cookie to complete her order! She came and one was completely wet and unset. She was a very old family friend and thought it was hilarious - so no harm - but OMG if that had been an actual customer!!!!!!!! It's funny NOW but at the time I was horrified! Friend or not it reflects me and a future business!

Oh well, horray for 2 year olds right? lol

LOL - Mine is always coming by asking for some when she sees them. She's also 2. I usually keep them on top of table and beg the boys to keep an eye on her. If not then i just give her one so she can go on her way....she usually comes back after a minute.
lesson learned, make extra's just in case!

I LOVE 2 year olds! They are adventurous and TOTALLY uninhibited!

So, you are going to make a few more cookies in the future, right? LOLL

I told my 13 year old "When you're a mom, you'll be able to tell your kids how you had cookies in the house all the time!" She said, (with a very forlorn face) "Yeah, but I'm not allowed to EAT any of them!" icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I always make extra of everything I do - extra buttercream, "just in case", extra cupcakes, "just in case" and extra cookies, for the same reason!

For baking cookies, especialy cut outs, I make about 10 extra in case they break while taking them on and off trays and in case some over cook or get a little deformed in shape while baking. Then I ice EVERYTHING the same and then only use the best ones for display. The "leftovers" are for my family so they won't say I never make anything for them! (I HATED that as a kid!!!)

I have a 21 month old... and my worst fear is his grabbing the cake from the cake turntable while I go to get more icing! I usually do these things when he's sleeping, but sometimes I have no choice, but to do it when he's underfoot too... though I wouldn't be mad at him for snatching something... how would he know that he's not supposed to touch/grab? You know?

My 3 year old knows better, but that is totally something my 20 month old would do. In fact, last month I was donating some cakes to a local mom's club and he swiped some of the icing off the top. at least it was the night before and I was able to fix it!

I have twin 4 yr old boys who love to observe! Today one of them ate at least a cup of black icing I had in the piping bag - just squirted it right in his mouth. He couldn't deny it - it was all over his face!!!!!!!!!!!

My 4 yo son (who totally knows better), is always trying to swipe icing every time he gets the chance. This past week I was working on a cake and had left the toothpick that I used to put green food coloring into the icing on the counter. He thought it was icing and licked it. His mouth and hands were green for 2 whole days! icon_lol.gif

I made the mistake of letting my boys (2 & 4) taste some RBC that I had made. Now I have to keep a watchful eye or they'll pull the dishwasher lid down, stand on it to get to the counter, climb up ONTO the counter, and sit there eating my RBC. The older one helps the little one up. LOL (Can you tell I'm speaking from experience?)

Anyone that has children would understand. Old friend or not. Glad you had one spare. You don't need that kind of stress!

That reminds me of something that happened about a year ago ... I donated an assortment of 30 cookies to our school's silent auction. All of the items were set up in the library for the auction that night. Well, during the day, one of the kindergartners got a hold of one of the cookies and was found in the hall eating it like it was no big deal. One of the woman felt so bad because I stated 30 cookies on the description and now there were only 29. So, she ran to a local grocery store and picked one up (lol ... she said it looked, ah, sorry to use this word, but 'ugly' that she purposely hid the store-bought cookie under the cookies in the back.

Here's the infamous little bite lol

She bit it then placed it on the rack so I almost missed it! If she hadn't looked at me with her mouth open and full of green I may not have noticed!
