I have only used this stand one time for cupcakes and I used all 6 tiers. Here is how many I got on each tier going from largest to smallest. There was a little room left in between the cupcakes that were on the outer edge of each level for the florist to put flowers in between the cupcakes.

I also put cupcakes around the cake stand and they sat directly on the tablecloth.
You may be able to get more or less on each tier depending on the size of your cupcakes. I used regular sized cupcake liners. To figure how many would fit, I made just one batch and covered each tier. I did not ice these cupcakes but used them later to make cakeballs. Yummuy!
