Should I just give up???? and quite bugging all of you?

I wouldn't suggest you baking it without the heating core. The centre will end up being raw and have nothing to support it.The core holds it together.I would try again. The key is the release from the pan and the cooling time!!Hope that helps!!

I have only made one of these large bear cakes, so I will try my best to help. I think the key is to use a firm cake mix. I used a pound cake and a yellow cake mixed together. It gives a good flavor and a sturdy cake. You will have mix left over-cake balls!!
The next important thing I think is proper cooling. Do it exactly as the instructions state.
I used the heating core and filled it with cake to fill the whole after I pulled the core out, but I know some people just leave it in if they can get it back later.
If you have more questions I will try my best to help, just PM me. I am going to be hit and miss at the computer today and wouldn't want to miss your post.

Hey Gibson, if you are using cake mix, just add a cup of flour and 1 egg to each package of cake and that will give you a firm cake (That way you can also make flavors other than yellow!)

Debsuewoo,

I hope this doesn't sound too stupid but would that be 1 extra egg to the mix you would still add the other eggs right?

I can't find a pound cake anywhere, from what I understand here in Alberta, Canada they are very difficult to find....if they are even available. I guess Canadians don't like pound cake?????? icon_lol.gif
