Hi.....here is a question I am curious about. Has anyone used candlestick holders as tier separators? I read in Wedding Cake magazine from England that sometimes people will do this.
I went to Joann's today and they had a ton of really pretty candlestick holders. I bought a few decorative ones that had flat tops, and balanced a plate on them. Seemed to work, but how would it do with a cake on it?.
My big question, though, is how to secure everything? Any Brits out there willing to share the secret??
Thanks!!!
Ellen
Maybe if you put thinned royal icing on a cake board or separator plate, then put the candlesticks on top while it's still wet. Seems like it would be somewhat stable once it dries, but I'm just thinking out loud. Not sure I would chance it with more than 2 or 3 tiers, but then I've never even done a tiered cake before.

I have a seperator that I use, from Lindy's cakes, and it's very similar in structure to a candlestick. You basically adhere a small cake board to the top and bottom using royal icing and then stick the cake on it's own cake board to it at the top and dowel it on the underneath tier. Very easy. I've seen people use champagne glasses, vases etc . at separators and all with no problems.
