I'm looking for the most efficient and cost effective way to print edible images. I just purchased a Canon MG6822 and wafer paper. The edible ink is the part I have questions about.

1)It seems like I could save a lot of money by purchasing a refillable cartridge/tank - but then I read somewhere that's it's not recommended to refill the tank on your own multiple times .... Has anyone had any experience with this?

I feel like that's what i'd like to do but I don't want to run into any problems

2) I live in Ontario, Canada and it looks like I can get the cartridges for around $100 ( the necessary 5 cartridges).. Is there any cheaper places you would suggest? (This was quoted from Golda's kitchen and Inkjet)

I'm just trying to figure out the cheapest way to do this without messing up my printer, wasting my money or getting bad quality ink.

Hi there,

With edible ink, you get what you pay for.  If you go cheap on ink, you will have more frustrations then it is worth.  I own Icing Images and so I can be considered biased, so I encourage you to talk to other people, but I believe our ink is the best in the industry, not just the truest color, but more importantly, it doesn't seem to clog as much as others.  Our customers loves our inks.  But again, because I am the owner, please ask others.  Whatever you do, don't go cheap on edible inks, you will hate edible printing if you do due to the trouble you will have.  But the Edible inks either make or break your edible printer.  Yes, you can refill, but we do not recommend that you refill more than three times per cartridge.  The icing sheet is also important.  I would suggest the Premium Icing Sheet as well as it tends not to fall of the backing prematurely nor does it crack easily.

I hope this is helpful for you.

I have wafer paper not iciing sheets.. I THINK wafer is better for cupcake toppers and and pictures that I want to have stand up (It looks thick and like it can hold it's structure)... I'm assuming icing sheets are thiner and better for placing on a flat surface ? I've read that icing sheets have better picture quality but the structure is different than wafer paper, correcT?

Hi there!

As a rule of thumb, I use icing sheets when something is going to accent a cake/cupcake and stand off the cake/cupcake. If its going to lay flat, my go to would be an icing sheet.  The icing sheet will hold a true color better because it is less transparent then the wafer paper and it gives the picture a white background.  Wafer paper is more stiff.  To complicate your life a bit more, there are different types of wafer paper as well.  There are different thicknesses which will make your experience change depending on what you are doing.  We carry a premium brand.  It comes white or in 6 different colors.  Ours is flavored as well, so when you eat it it doesn't detract from your cake/cupcake. It is a easy to use thickness/thinness and we also have a product that helps you to shape it called Paper Potion!  I bet thats more than you wanted to know!!!
