Hey Everyone !

I wanted to ask what is the best type of food coloring to get a black buttercream icing,....? I used one brand that took alot of food coloring and ended up getting the buttercream to color the tongue once eaten. If anyone has a good brand or method please let me know. I am also looking for edible gold paper to use on cakes however I do not trust to buy from any website that has no reviews on the products. If anyone has purchased edible gold paper and recommends a website to order from I would love to know....

Thank you in advance :)

Lol...I would refuse to make a cake with black buttercream. Unless I could buy it. I find it a pain already to make black fondant  but buttercream might even be more difficult. And besides as you said the taste...and the black teeth...LOL - nooooo!

i think regardless of what brand you use, you will still get black buttercream that stains EVERYTHING - teeth, mouth, clothes, poop!! Such a mess!!  I would use black fondant instead, so your client can peel off the fondant and eat the cake with buttercream. But if you or your client has their heart set in black buttercream, I have read that other bakers airbrush the cake black, less messy as well. Good luck :)

Start with chocolate butter cream if you can, it will take less black......
