So...this is a really stupid question but do you insert the thermometer in the cake while it is still in the oven or take it out first. TIA.
Definitely not a stupid question!
When taking a product temp, I always remove the item from the oven. I think for you, it depends upon how fast your thermometer reaches temp, and how you feel about losing oven heat.
