First time working with gold dust. I added the  gold with vodka right after taking it out the fridge. That was at 4 o'clock. The gold is running and still sticky wet, what should I do. Cake is for tomorrow morning.  My other suggestion was to recover it in fondant  and spray paint it gold but the topper is a gold crown like the cake an the gold shade will be off. What should I do

Try to calm down. I am sure others here will have the answers you seek. From the picture I can't really see where the gold is running and sticky. Keep the faith and know that you are not alone. Others here have had many disasters and  they always end up fixing the issues.

I have never worked with gold and vodka but I know others here will know exactly what you can do to fix it!! Hang in there and lets see what others have to say!! Meanwhile take a deep breath and try to relax!!! It will work out!!

Yes, recover the cake and airbrush the fondant.  Can you also airbrush the topper to match?   Must it be an exact match?

It will turn out okay in the end--

Don't give up!

So I decided to recover them with new fondant and going to spray paint them. Can I refrigerate the cake after its done or let it sit over night

i would try to remove the color first without removing the fondant -- I'd use paper towels and water -- that should work fine to take the gold off -- especially if you are re-coloring it gold -- i'd suggest that you be sure the gold is dry before you put it in the fridge -- use a hair dryer on soft & low or a fan that is freshly cleaned

be sure the paint is dry -- maybe your fridge is too humid?

So sorry that happened to you. When you remove a cake from the fridge it starts sweating. If the kitchen is hot is sweats so much that you have water from condensation form on the outside and run down the sides - ruining the paint like in your case. Don't give up! You wrote you covered it in fresh fondant and it seems like you could rescue the cake... well done.
