@KCC - There are a lot of different ways to make a cupcake bouquet.  Sounds like you may be trying one of the "hard" ways.  Are you using an entire styrofoam sphere placed into/on a pot, or are you using a half-sphere placed into/on a pot?

Next questions:  Have you ever made this before?   Are you working from a tutorial or just winging it?

If gravity is pulling the cupcakes off the toothpicks meant to hold them in place, try putting the toothpicks in at different angles:

Example:  Instead of putting the toothpicks in like this...............ll

Put the toothpicks in like this......./ \

Here are some photos of my cupcake bouquets made the EASY way:

My container is a glass vase provided by client using regular and Mimi cupcakes with fondant flowers I took a whole ball and carved and cut so it fits snug over the top like a lid I tried several un iced with different angles of toothpicks and even added glue dots I think I'm getting cups but may not be able to get 17-20 on the vase Have to go to work this am then have about 4 hours before delivery thanks for your help Apti

Getting materials supplied by the client is a booger!  Do you have to get 17-20?  Is that part of the order?   That's why you're having such a difficult time; you're trying to make a concept work with materials you didn't choose  that are probably not optimum for the task.

I have no idea of your overall skill level since this is an anonymous, international forum, nor what you may be charging for  bouquet, but I'd suggest  getting as many of the cupcakes on the "bouquet" that will be stable, and provide the other cupcakes "on the side" in a separate container.

Best of luck to you!  By the time you read this, it will all be over anyway.  Post a photo, ok?

I may be a little late to the game but wanted to give my 2 cents.

I always use 4oz souffle cups stapled together then hot glued to vase.  They work great!!

Start with one in the center and then staple 6 around the first one.  Then another layer around the 6 will fit 11 more for 18 total.  I'm not at home at the moment or I would attach a picture of just the cups stapled together but I do have a picture of what the final bouquet looks like using this technique.

Hope this helps.

kns93 I love your idea, your picture is charming, cupcakes most delectable looking -- presented to their best advantage -- very feminine, floral

and I now have a monthly occasion to supply something like this for, so excited --

so thanks for sharing -- I never 'got' cupcake bouquets before but your method makes sense -- nice and secure -- then each guest just scoops one out?

I thought I might try attaching two ribbon loops that stick up a bit -- attach to either side of an extra cupcake liner so they could grab the loops in order to give it a little lift up -- and place cupcake into that and then that into the 4 ounce souffle cup...we'll see...might look messy with random ribbons popping out all over...we'll see -- leave it to me to over think it :)

best to you

2 posts not working...?

Will post one picture at a time in the event 3 per post is what might be causing the problem.

Cup method - reliable. I found a tutorial from 2009 when I made some of these. Will try and find to credit the person who inspired me.

1 picture per seems to be the problems.  OK.

K8... we think alike.  For this and another I did back then, I used green ribbon strips hoping they'd look like greenery and leaves between the flowers.  Think you can see them in this picture.  Worked well for people, though I watched as someone stabbed each cupcake with a fork, lifted it out of the cup, and put on her plate.  Effective but stabbed in my heart as well!!

Last one to show the ribbon idea.  This bouquet used the cups too, and traveled very well.

I'll go search out the tutorial now.

This is a Cake Central thread about the time I did my first bouquet.  There are two links plus some pictures within the thread.

[postimage id="5295" thumb="900"]The bouquets posted above by people are lovely!   These are so fun to make and so impressive as a dessert presentation.   I originally learned from KHalstead.   If you are doing these to sell, you can maximize your profit and time/supply investment by making them on flat cake boards as shown by KHalstead in the thread below.

http://www.cakecentral.com/forum/t/672414/cupcake-bouquet-disaster

I figured out delivery options and determined that the 6" terra cotta pot with 7 cupcakes fits well in a box with an X in the middle, then wrap with a large cellophane bag.

Thanks for the kudos @-K8memphis ‍!!

In order to get the cupcakes out I supply a couple of bamboo skewers.  Stab the middle and it lifts them just enough to reach under and pull them out easily.
