Hello out there!

have a fondant covered cake with a hand painted design.  The design was painted with petal dust and vodka.  Now looking at it, I think the design is bold so I would like to tone it down a bit.  Can I achieve this by brushing over it with dry pearl dust?  I don't mind the cake having a pearl shimmer.  I just don't want to ruin the painted design.  I just need to soften it a little and thought pearl dust might achieve it.  I'm open to any suggestions?

Thanks.

Pearl dust is white and may block too much color. My suggestion is to roll out some fondant or gum paste, make a sample painting using same colors as on cake, then dust with the pearl dust. This way you do not risk ruining your painting on the cake if the results are not what you want. I found this out on one of my cakes, the pearl blocked too much color.

It should work if you do a VERY light coat but a test run like @gscout73 ‍ suggest is a great idea.

since you are testing -- mix some same color petal dust in the pearl & see if that will help
