I was just asked to make a cake with a lawn mower on top of it. I've never done anything like this before, but am wanting to try. My problem is that I'm not that great at sculpting with fondat/gumpaste, but that is an option. The other way I've thought of doing it was by finding a toy of it and making a mold and using chocolate or sugar to make it. That's something else I've never done before.

As a beginner to this type of thing, which would you think would be easier to do and make look good.

I've attached a picture of the kind of mower they are wanting.[postimage id="4716" thumb="900"]

I would say do fondant/gumpaste. Making molds and working with chocolate is not the quickest process...it sounds like you've used fondant before.

I would suggest you do a google image search for riding mower cakes, so you can get an idea of how other people simplified the design of a mower, and it will start to look less intimidating and give you some ideas. If you have time I would also order some tylose powder to knead into your fondant- it shortens the drying time and makes it harden better.
