So I did two cakes today, one for a paid order and one because we have potluck the first Sunday every month at my church. The paid order turned out great, so I moved on to the potluck cake. I'd seen a photo on Pinterest that I wanted to try -- an American flag done in alternating colored stars that were sort of swiped before starting the next row. I did the blue and white part first, and it looked great. I then switched to the red and white for the stripes. Unfortunately, I guess I was in the groove of making those alternating stars, and I never switched to doing solid red and white stripes. Check out my Pinterest fail -- my poor flag cake. Once it hit me what I had done, I had to laugh. Am I the only one who has fails like this? My only consolation is that this is not a paid order, and I know it will be gobbled up tomorrow. Live and learn.

You may think it is a fail, but others will think how talented you are. I like it.

Haha! Don't tell anyone it was supposed to be a flag and they'll never know!

It was supposed to look like this.

The more I think about it, the funnier it gets. Fortunately it's for an extremely forgiving crowd, so it will be fine. I'm just thankful it wasn't a paid order! No one complains about free cake  :)

It looks like an artistic impression of an American flag, there you go, no fail here.

I don'tthink it's a fail at all.  If you don't tell anyone your initial plan they'll never know the difference.

@jselle...nobody but 12 people on CakeCentral will ever know you consider this cake a "fail".  At church, just smile and accept the compliments.

Thank you all for the positive comments, and @Apti ‍, that's exactly what I did. It was a huge hit, especially with the military veterans. It also helped that it was three layers inside -- red, white, and blue. :)

What they'll see is a very pretty red, white and blue cake - they're going to love it! Don't tell anyone what you had in mind. I saw the original on Pinterest and thought it was great, yours is a different interpretation and still great!
