As if my life isn't stressful enough my DH wants to move back to Austin!!! icon_cry.gif I mean I love Austin and would be awesome to be closer to family, but OMG. We have a new baby and a house full of furniture (we would have to move back into an apartment). Which isn't so bad. But every time we have moved I have always been the one to pack and unpack icon_cry.gif Now it's not going to be easy with the baby. Then there is the problem with selling the house and finding a place in Austin (he already has a job). Does anyone knoe about selling a house quick?? That's the biggest problem. I'm sorry I just needed to vent. Thanks ladies. If anyone has any advice I am more than willing to listen.

Sorry I haven't any advise. But I wish you luck in your search. And it is good to just vent or you will just blow up at someone you don't mean to. So vent anytime you need to.

I don't really have any advise either, but do you ever watch "Designed to Sell" on HGTV or "Sell This House" on A&E....They are both really good at
showing how to stage your house to sell quickly.
It is all about have as little clutter as possible, because you want potential buyers to be able to
picture their belongings in the space.

Best of Luck.
Cindy

WOW I am sorry to here that. My SIL was blessed with living in the same SMALL town as MIL and she was about to kill her before they move here. Our MIL would just show up all the time and at the worst moments. She finally blew up at MIL and told her it was OK to stop by BUT CALL FIRST. So it worked for a few weeks icon_cry.gif I will be thinking of you. Our MIL is very nice don't get me wrong. Actually she is to nice and it can get annoying.

Thanks Kay. I'll just roll with the punches and if it gets to bad I'll just Blow up at everyone and then my husband can deal with the aftermath.

That is what BIL had to do when He wouldn't back up his wife. He learned real quickly that it was a bad thing to move back to the home town icon_cry.gif
Everyone in town knew what was going on in your family before you did icon_razz.gificon_cry.gif I wish you all the luck. Discuss with DH the consequences of having MOM pop in at the worst time possible and asking why are you panting when you answered the door icon_razz.gif Sorry it sounded bad but that is what happened to SIL.

That's awesome. My HD would die. I just hope when it does happen (and believe me it will happen) everyone is still standing.

I will tell you now that it's a bad idea to be within 5 miles of a MIL. You might get along with her now but you never know what will happen in the future. Mine was fine until about 3 years ago, after we were already living less than 2 miles away, and she quit work. It's been steadily going downhill since, it's not that she's not nice but she wants to run my life.

Wow! Good luck.
I can only offer some advice on trying to sell a house quickly. Like the shows on HGTV, "Sell this House" and whatnot ...

A few of my close friends are realtors. This is the stuff they always say:

- no clutter, pack up any collections or displays that show too much of your personality.
- no family photos - swap them out with some generic artsy things or remove them altogether
-keep the house even cleaner than for company
-paint any boldly colored rooms with something more neutral. I myself can see past this, but apparently a lot of people can't.
-make rooms seem as open as possible. consider putting any excess furniture in storage while you're selling
-NO air fresheners or scented candles. I guess it seems too obvious that you're trying to cover something up. BUT baking cookies or something yummy smelling before a showing is GOOD, Or simmer a pot of water with orange slices and cinnamon.

The point is that other people can see themselves living in your house, so keep it "generic", open and clean.

When we showed our house, it was kept immaculate every day because you never knew when a realtor would show the house. I mean there was NOTHING on the kitchen counters. We took down any window treatments that we could without it looking funny to let as much natural light in as possible. We put half our belongings into storage to make the house look spacious. Like a previous poster said, we took ALL photos down and packed them away, repainted a pink hallway to beige. Cleaned out all the closets so they looked half-empty. Emptied out the attic/basement to storage unit so they looked big. It's all about making your house as empty as possible, without it looking empty to the average eye. If you have a lot of furniture, get it into storage. Our bedrooms had a bed, nightstand, and 1 dresser. THAT's IT.

Good luck. It's tough, but do-able.

Now as far as living near the MIL ... well good luck and God Bless. You'll need it!

I live next door to my MIL. It has been a roller coaster ride for the last 22 years. My son was 4 and she thought she could rais him the way she wanted. I put up a fence to keep my son at home and you should have heard the language from in-laws about putting up barriers. She would invite her guest to tour my house any time she wanted. After the fence, I got a dog. As the dog grew, she would bark at MIL and scare her. MIL did not like the dog and was very scared of her. I have never had a problem with her showing up at my house ever since. I also limited my son's visits with her because she was an alcholic and I never knew when she was drunk until I would go next door to get my son to come home. She always treated my son like he was her houseboy. Of course her other grandchildren that lived in another town were treated like royalty. My son is now grown and rarely visits her when he is in town. (away at college). As far as I am concerned she caused that problem, so she can live with it.

Why is you dh so determined to move back? Is the job that good or is he just homesick? If he is homesick, you could have more problems with your MIL invading your family life than you are willing to deal with. I hope things work out better for you than me. We are on speaking terms now, but I do not go out of my way anymore to please her. Last year was the last time I tried to do something nice for her (re- work a large flowerbed) and all she did was complain. There are just some people you can never please and are never good enough.

His current job really sucks and he is ready to quit. Now that we've had a chance to talk I'm not freakin' quite so bad. I mean moving still sucks but he is going to take a week off before he wants to move it fix things and pack!! So I can still work. We'll know more after this weekend. And I'm going to take start taking classes. My biggest problem is I'm not going to have any friends (family doesn't count). Maybe I can even get a part time job. That way I can meet people. I'm sure things will be fine. If my MIL gets to be a problem my DH can deal with her or he can deal with me.

No matter where you move, we are still here for you. You can find a friend here no matter what time of day or night it is. Make sure to add some of your favorites to you buddy list so that you will know when they are online. Good for you for talking it over with your dh.
