Does anyone know what I need in order to do edible images? Is there equipment I need to buy or is my printer enough. I'd really love to try it if it's not too expensive. Anyone with info to share is invited to give me your 2 cents.

Thank you, Melony

Edible images can be costly if you want a good product. KopyKake makes a system that I know a few people use. You need a separate printer because it actually uses food coloring to print the pictures.
here is their site http://www.kopykake.com/
When I need a picture I use candylandcrafts.com sugarcraft.com
and if I am a real rush i go to my local supermarket and they do them for me. hope this helps

There was a forum on this topic a couple of days ago and I can't seem to find it. I did print it out, but it's at home, so I can send you the info on Monday. The comments were really good, someone even gave the different printers that use the edible sheets. I do know that Canon seems to be favored. Sorry I couldn't much help today!

Don't be sorry. If you could get me the info that would be great. I'll try and see if I can find the forum you are talking about.

Thank you

Several of us here on CC have purchased a Canon printer, from a variety of sources, some came from Amazon.com, they show up on eBay for very reasonable prices. The IP 1500 with 2 color cartridges, and the IP 3000 with 4 colors seem to be most popular Canon models. You do have to have to use it exclusively with the edible ink cartridges! The combination packages available at KopyKakes and other places will cost you more than purchasing the items separately! My printer was about $50 on Amazon.com.

I do buy printing supplies from KopyKakes.com and also from Sugarcraft.com. The sugar sheets are about $50 for a package of 25, if I remember correctly. Hope this helps, I'm sure some other Canon owners will have some input as well. Janice

Another question for the post... how do you go about looking for the images to print out?

Printing out pictures that have a copy right CAN NOT be printed. So, if you want something like a cartoon from a movie or TV show by law you can not print it and sell it without permission. Also a photograph taken by a professional photographer can not be copied unless you have written consent. Please be aware of the copy right laws I would hate to see anyone lose their business over it.

Finding images is easy and fun...use google to look for royalty-free images that allow commercial use. You'll find some that are free and others that can be purchased on CD. Personal photos can also be printed and sold. Professional photos require the permission of the photographer which I've never had any trouble getting. Offer to put their business card beside the cake and you'll usually get a yes.

If you're not selling the cake or the image, you can have a lot of fun with any images you find.

You say as long as I don't sell them. So the family cakes that I may do shouldn't be a problem?

I have been thinking of a puchase? Do you use it offen? I'm afraid I wouldn't get my $ out of it. Like many other cool things I had to have, and have never used. Also thinking about a Kopykake? Anyone have any feedback on those? With alll the BCT being done, I wonder what would be easier.
