Hi,
I need your help guys... I have the Wilton 3D Egg Pan and would like to use it and make a cake with it "standing", not laying on the side (as it is intended to be used) but on the skinny part of it, almost like an almond shape... God I hope I´m expressing my self well and not getting you guys confused icon_confused.gif ... my question is how should I stack or make both sides stay together and not fall since the filling would end up vertically instead of horizontally. Hope this makes sense. Thanks so much, I would appreciate any help and ideas.

Hi

How are you planning on decorating it?

I would put it together and stand it up. I would dowel(wooden dowel) both sides of the egg to support it. Covering it in fondant would help to support it.

I have an idea. Wouldn't it be easier to make 3 x2" cakes or however tall you need it. Stack and cut the cake to the shape you need? Then you wouldn't need to be worried about the collapse.

Hope this helps

Dawn

Thanks Dawn,
I guess you are right, I should carve my cake out of horizontal layers... I guess I´m being too lazy since the wilton pan is the exact size and shape I need. I was planning on using fondant to cover the cake but still have the big Q on my head of how to have it stay put and not move... what to do what to do...

I think you'd either have to dowel it at an angle and/or use royal icing as the filling, so it will harden together. I would think the carving of the cakes would be the more safe and rest easy approach. Good luck!
