Hi!
I have to do a cake that feeds 15 people. I'm thinking of doing a 6x3, 3 layer on the bottom and a 4x2, 2 or 3 layer on the top. Do you think this would feed 15 people?
And
How many people would a 3 layer 8x2 feed?
Thanks a bunch!
Erin
Are you saying the bottom and top tiers would only be 3" & 2" tall, respectively, but they would be torted and filled? They'd have to be pretty thin cake layers to not be taller than that. If I bake a 6" cake I make 2 approximately 2" tiers that are then torted & filled (so three layers of filling total) and usually end up between 4-5 inches tall once it's covered in buttercream and/or fondant. That being said, when created in the same way described above, my 8" serves 20 generously, my 6" serves 12, and my 4" serves 2-3 depending how it's cut.
If you really end up with 3" and 2" tall tiers after filled and torted, I would assume you plan to cut bigger servings than the standard 1"-2" slices and you wouldn't get as many servings. If that's true, a 6" & 4" for 15 might be pushing it if it's the only dessert to be served.
Thank you so much for your advice! I never word it correctly. Lol so each cake (4 and 2) would be about 4" tall after I fill them. Do you think it would be enough then?
Yes, that should be plenty! This is a 6" & 4" that served 17 nicely!
