Howdy!

I just watched the CC video on painting buttercream (www.cakecentral.com/tutorial/61710/painted-buttercream-cake)

In the video, the decorator uses merengue buttercream.  I'm wondering if it's possible to do this on any crusting recipe or if it has to be merengue...

You can.  Just us a light touch and make sure your buttercream is completely set or the brush will leave dents.  It is really fun to do!
