Did you add gum-tex to the MMF?

I have actually turned a fan to blow on the bow loops before. I usually only have trouble with the MMF on humid days. The fan really seems to help.

OK, I've been wondering long enough, so I'll bite the bullet and ask...what exactly is gum-tex? Something you make, something you buy? How much would you add to a recipe of MMF? I'm guessing it's some kind of drying agent. Could you use meringue powder instead?

You buy gum-tex, it is in the same kind of container as meringue powder. I usually add about a teaspoon to a baseball size ball of MMF. I'm not sure if you can use meringue powder in it's place.

I bought some gum tex today and added it to a new batch... I am wondering if I should redo the bow. I think I will try the fan as well! thanks for the gum tex idea I had no idea how much to add. I have done that and am leaving it overnight, the pkge says needs to cure overnight?

I didnt add gum tex to my MMF when I made bows and they took about 3 days to become hard enough to stand up ok..I didnt drape them over a dowel to dry, I had them on parchment paper and had some rolled up in each loop to keep the shape.. Even when I put them on my cake they werent really hard but they kept the shape fine.. I wasnt really sure how hard they would get because this was the first time I had made MMF.and I had never worked with fondant before.

It could depend on where you live too. I live in hawaii and I haven't found anyway to get royal icing or fondant to dry/harden. I made some flower petals out of fondant about 2 months ago, I wanted to try this out because I havent' had any success with my royal icing flowers (which I've made a million times before moving here) and now I have a couple dozen sticky flower petal stuck in a draw because I havent' gotten around to peeling them off of the flower formers yet.
