I know this seems simplistic, but....

Do yourself a favor, and when you're delivering a cake to a public place, be sure to get the cell number of the person you're to hook up with.

I work at a place where we sometimes rent space for parties, weddings, etc. Last night we had this HUGE, very important party there. It was even covered by the local TV stations. Big deal, right?

My phone number is the one published for the public to use. So, I got a call from this frantic-sounding woman who was to deliver a cake to the party. She was running quite late and needed to let the party planner know. Would I mind telling her?

First of all, I had NO idea who the planner was or what she looked like. Our place is VERY big...and it was crawling with caterers, bar tenders, florists, the press and assorted dozens of other people I didn't know. Plus, it was impossible for me to leave my post at that time, as phone traffic was intense, and my staff wasn't working last night. It was just me.

She was very upset and kept trying to describe the woman to me, and I kept telling her I just couldn't do it. I asked if she didn't have the woman's cell phone number, and she admitted she didn't. I finally convinced her I couldn't help her, as much as it pained me to do so.

You never know when something unforeseen will happen. Please, please...get full contact information (including cellphone) and maybe the numbers of some backup people in case the worst happens. It will, one of these days.

Just sharing a reality bite from my crazy life.... icon_smile.gif

Great advice! When I get info from brides, I ask for the name and cell number of someone I can contact in case, heaven forbid, I get stuck in traffic or worse. I certainly don't want to call the bride or her mom, but rather a trusted sister or friend. Only if there's no wedding planner, of course.
