Hi, I'm new here, this is my first post. I'm going to make a stacked birthday cake for my son tomorrow, Do I really have to put dowel rods??
I'm also going to make the Barbie pan cake for my daughter, but I will make a bigger rectangular cake under it because the quantity from the pan comes out little. Do I also have to put rods?? What if I don't put anything? what could happen?? Thanks a lot for answering me.
Hi,
It's probably best to dowel just to be on the safe side. I've done larger stacked and smaller stacked. Just for an example I thought I could get away from stacking a tiny 4" and 6" and by the time the cake was cut the 4" started to "sink" - that was my lesson learned on that one!!! Good luck with your cake. ![]()
Thanks for all your answers.
Kjt: I'll be doing 2 cakes, one is Character pan with a rectangle cake base under it. The second one will be a 12" round, then an 8" on top.
What are the dowels you usually use? are they the wooden or plastic ones? Are they with flat tops or just plain sticks??
I don't know why I have the feeling that if I put dowels, and then top cake, the dowels will go into the top cake!!
Thanks.
