Just as the subject line says--What is the difference in Buttercream & Satin Icing?

I use buttercream icing on my cakes, & just recently saw in a Cake Stores something called Satin Ice Icing, what is it & why would you use it rather than buttercream icing?

Satin Ice is a fondant and a very yummy one at that. It is the only fondant I use on my cakes. You "play" with fondant like it was an edible playdoh. You can roll it out and cover cakes with it or use it to model figures or make accent pieces for you cake! As you know, buttercream is spread on the cake with a spatula and smoothed.

This will give you an idea of the difference. I didn't know myself so went searching. Wish I had a recipe for this.http://www.atecousa.net/learn/satin_ice_1.shtml
