I have been asked to do a topsy turvy cake for a coworker. You can see my other post re: TT. I got her guest list.......a total of 25 people. I have figured up the smallest cake I can do TT is for 60 people. I told her that.....and I also sell bc decorated cakes for $2/slice. I spoke with her, and told her that I would do the cake for $100, $20 off the reg. price, because I work with her and giving her the best price I could. This cake will be both fondant and bc, also 3 different flavors of cake. That also includes delivery and set up......
She looked at me sort of odd..and did not say anything. I am really thinking that she is going to cancel on me......this is not until March. Am I too expensive? Too cheap? TELL ME!
People just don't realize the work and time and materials that go into cakes.......that's my opinion. ![]()
that's my point. NOBODY here where I am does tt cakes......I have yet to see them anywhere.......and I check everywhere I go. ![]()
I was thinking of jsut $2/slice and offering her a gc for a cake later in the year....it's going to surprise me IF SHE STILL WANTS THIS CAKE. ![]()

Maybe print some photos and prices for her to check out, then she'll see what a good deal she's getting. She could go with a small 2-tier cake, but I don't think it would look that good as a TT. $2/slice is way too cheap. Don't underprice yourself--word gets out and then you'll be expected to work for peanuts.
At $2/slice for TT, she is getting a good deal. Give her a couple of weeks to see if she can get a better deal and see if she comes back. Yes, I agree that folks have no idea the cost of good ingredients (just the butter alone which has gone up again) and the preparation time involved to do a nice cake. Maybe she will come back for the basic buttercream cakes instead.
