This is a bit long and I apologise in advance for that.

On Sunday my closest friend passed away due to complications with a miscarriage (and a serious case of negligence on the part of the hospital). I'm still in shock - she turned me on to caking and celebrated almost every cake I made with reckelss abandon. She was larger than life and always had a smile or a word of encouragement.. She had a husband and a two year old daughter whom she loved to distraction.. I could go on and on. I miss her.

Anyhow, the funeral's being arranged for Friday this week and I have been asked to make a cake for the service of songs, etc. I am completely at a loss... it is going to be my goodbye, but I don't know how to say it. If anyone has ideas with which you can help me out, I will be eternally grateful.

First of all, sorry for your loss..and what a way to celebrate your friendship with this amazing woman.

which one of your cakes did she like/enjoy the most? maybe that flavor cake with some of her favorite decorations?

I wouldn't go with anything too morbid, as she sounds like a woman that wouldn't want you to be sad about her passing..

but I would make sure that the colors were muted and soft and just make it a tribute to her, her friendshp, and the things that you shared.

First of all...Im sorry to hear about your friend...its always hard to lose someone close to you....As for the cake...I would think that a cake with lots of flowers on it would be appropiate and maybe with a saying on it as well such as in loving memory...or something like that

Terribly sorry to hear your news.

What about a larger cake for the "guests" (not sure that's the correct word) and a small "smash" cake beside it from you?

I am really sorry for you loss.

I would suggest a cake that has words about her that has a lot of meaning to you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You are a wonderful person to make a beautiful cake to celabrate her life. I made a cake in a pale blue with small daisies on it before and wrote "In his garden now" on it. The family really liked it even though it was for the loss of their sister. Give yourself plenty of time to do this cake just in case you need a cry break. I'll pray for you and her family. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

Thank you all for your kind words and suggetsions. She loved flowers, but she didn't have a favourite. I think I will combine ideas and have a large cake for guests with words, and a smash cake with a floral center or in form of a small potted plant. She always wanted to see me make one of those.

Thanks again.

So sorry for your loss,
just remember our loss is "Heavens Reward" .

As for the cake I think the flower arrangement with a verse, or even add a butterfly or small dove in with it..

Sorry about your friend. How about a staircase, with flowers, and on the top of the stairs a set of angel wings.

Thank you M, would you mind if I borrow those words please?

RB, she enjoyed all of my cakes, but she was partial to fruit cake. I shall make on fruit cake and a large sponge cake. She like blue a lot, so I'll use blue.

I'm grateful to you guys, but I have to take a "cry break" just now, so I'll be silent for a while.

So sorry for your loss. Since it was due to complications from a m/c, it is doubly sad in opinion.

I am new at this whole cake/cookie decorating, but I know I have seen cakes on this site with a white choc wrap or edible image that had words repeatedly on the wrap. Maybe from Adven(she was in the spotlight). Or possibly a Psalm.

Peace to you and her family.

My heart goes out to you and her family. This is something the two of you shared, and just by doing a cake it is a huge tribute to her. I ran across some sayings this week and wrote them down in case I would ever need them. Feel free to use any of these if you like.

Truly I tell you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise. Luke 23:43

If distance were measured in terms of the heart, we'd never be more than a minute apart.

I look for the day when He calls for me, so together again we can be.
