Did you add gumtex to your MMF or anything to make your petals so thin?

Your roses on your Welcome Home Cake are beautiful!

Thank you! No I haven't ventured into the world of gum-tex just yet. Still trying to figure that out.
My roses on that cake are just MMF.

Holy Moly! I don't think I can get away with not using gumtex. I live in the south and it is still hot. We are hoping for a cold snap at a nice whopping 60 degrees.

I made my mmf roses and my petals had to be thicker and I could not get my fondant to hold shape if it was 1/16 in.

I have not tried gumtex in the mmf but from what I read it is necessary. I was going to make a bow but am not until I get the gumtex.

MMF is just so cheap and there is alot that can be done with it.
My compliments to you.

I forgot...did you use the Wilton cutters for your roses or did you use the individual petal shaping method?

I used the wilton rose cutters for those roses. In my photos there is a gumpaste arrangement on my Wilton III final cake that one is done with the individual cutters.
Also the blue and white cake is MMF with a MMF bow-again MMF only no gum-tex.
I am just learning and have ALOT left to learn, maybe I will try it with gum-tex soon.

Newtodecorating,
I'm sorry to invite myself into this conversation but can you please tell me how you make your roses using MMF. Do you add other ingredients?? Thanks

Daniela, Nope! Just MMF. After doing those I kinda taught myself gumpaste, it is much easier. I just did the MMF ones one layer at a time, that way I can place them in styrofoam upside down and the petals don't droop. I am working on some MMF ones now that I am trying to paint gold with luster dust. This teaching yourself thing is hard! Thank Goodness for this site!!!

I know I'm on the same boat you're on!! I've been teaching myself for the time being because classes are just impossible right now!!! I have some left over MMF, maybe I should try making stuff with it. Does it dry stiff or is it moist when it dries (the MMF)
I haven't tried gumpaste yet.............. which recipe do you use for it??

I ask too many questions icon_lol.gif
Thanks for helping me out. It's very much appreciated

I took all 3 Wilton classes, and don't get me wrong it did help, but I had two different teachers and they both could have learned ALOT here!!
When the MMF is dry- it is hard as a rock! I have 2 roses left from that cake I put in a tupperware container and I keep checking on them to see how long they will hold-so far so good and it has been since July!
A few suggestions- do all the centers 24 hrs ahead, use water to attach, and place in a styrofoam block upside down for a while to dry then right side up in a reese cup paper(don't know the correct term) that keeps the sides up.
