Ok, so i tried the Durable Cake receipe for the first time. is the batter supposed to be really thick? also, i used the flower nail in the center and it worked wonderfully, however the sides of the cake were really hard. i checked it every few minutes until the center was done...but the sides were so hard. what did i do wrong?
also used the buttercream dream that was recommended........love it! thanks.

HI kchart! I love the durable cake recipe! Let's see, what temp. are you baking it at?? I always bake at 325 degrees, it takes a bit longer to bake. I think that would take care of the problem with the sides.

I think the baking strips might help also, it's supposed to keep the sides from getting too done. I also agree with denise, lower the temp. icon_wink.gif

bake at 325 and use professional grade alluminum pans or the wilton bake even strips to avoid a seriously crusty edge. the batter will be thick, and it is so great for carving and holds up to fondant well.
