I am making a pregnant belly cake and my ? is should I put a cake board under the belly part of the cake and then dowel under it, or will it be ok to put it right on top of the sheet cake . I am worried that it that the weight of the belly after the fondant is put on will be to heavy and sink down into the cake.

If you are using half of the ball pan (or similar) for the belly, you shouldn't need to dowel it.

I've used 1/2 the ball pan for the baby dragon cake and many soccer ball cakes - its not as heavy as yout hink. Don't bother with the dowel!

Good luck! I've been dying to make one of these!
