Mac,
The regular airbrushing equipment that is used for t-shirts and art will blow holes in your cake. The compressors are too powerful.
My husband just bought me an airbrush kit without the compressor. A decent sized aquarium pump with aquarium tubing (silicone) will do just as well as the expensive compressors.
Check out www.badger.com My airbrush kit is from Badger. It's a model 155. You'll see the models that they recommend for cake decorating.
Mac,
I apologize. I made a mistake with the web address. It is...

I have a regular airbrush from Badger that I used when I worked in a salon doing nails.
Pulled it out and sanitized it and used it to do my Spiderman Crawling on the City cake with no problems with holes.
I have an Airmaster from Kopykake.I absolutely love it!! The pressure is awesome and smooth and the colors are vibrant and true!!

The brand is TOP FIN. It's for a 30 to 80 gallon aquarium and it has adjustable air flow control with advanced high-tech design for quiet performance. It is very quiet. I also got silicone tubing and a stainless valve (aquarium supplies). I do not use the tubing that came with the airbrush kit because it is too stiff and the fittings wouldn't work with the aquarium pump.
Hope this helps.
