- A nice evening out with you or the whole family (dinner or movie)

Something unique would be the best. And a cake can be unique! I am also thinking about that. And I think, I will make a mixture: First a real flower bouquet and second, a cake with some flower decorations and fondant.

Why not make a cookie card?  You make the cookie any shape you want then decorate it just like a greeting card.  Cards will get thrown away (unless you are from my family and keep everything until you die) or put in a box.  This card will have a double purpose.  Just a thought.....

The best gift is what she wants. If someone made me a cake I wouldn't appreciate it, hahaha! My kids know better. They always get me basil plants so that I can put those in and make pesto later. That and fancy handmade soap. Is this for your mother? What does she like for herself, not for other people? Taking the family out for dinner is nice but she might prefer a massage or something like that to get away from people for a while!

I'm making dinner plus these (flowers & butterflies are cookies & the pot is an over-sized cupcake):
