Icing Accents On Mmf Covered Cake

I will soon be attempting to cover my first cake with MMF and wanted to know what icing would be better to add designs on the surface (i.e. scrolls, dots, etc)......Buttercream icing or Royal icing. I have seen it done both ways, but would like some input.
Thanks, in advance, for your suggestions.
I would think the royal icing would make the cake much more "crunchy". I have only done it twice but I used butter cream
I had thought the same thing....not sure I would like the "crunchiness" of the royal. But, I guess if you don't do a lot of decorations, it wouldn't be too crunchy. I have dabbled with some MMF accents on buttercream covered cakes and used some buttercream on top of those MMF accents, seemed to work fine. Guess it all depends on what look and texture you are trying to achieve.
I did a BCT on a fondant cake and it turned out pretty good. I didn't have any issues with the fondant breaking down or anything. It was stored in the fridge overnight, takne to my mom's house the next day and there it sat for 5 hours before we even touched it and there were no problems at all.HTH
