Hi! Welcome to CC! I am also fairly new at this. I like your 40th cake. The lace treatment seems very pretty and even-nicely done! Your cake looks really smooth too! thumbs_up.gif And your colorings and design are nice. I give it thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

The doll cake is hard to see clearly unless it is just my monitor.

Ok, no fair! Those cakes look too good to be done by a brand new decorator.

The doll's dress was made from a Pampered Chef measuring bowl that you can bake in (sort of a rounded cone/domed shape). I just mixed up the batter in a separate bowl, greased the measuring bowl, and poured the batter in it to bake. Then when it is done you just flip it over, pop it out, and it is the shape of the dress.
Thanks so much for all of the encouraging words! Thanks also for all of the great posts on this forum. I learn so much!

Overall they both look great if I was going to offer one bit of criticism it would be the corneli lace on the 40th birthday cake. Corneli lace should be done as a completely irregular pattern. On yours I can see where you have worked your way around the cake, but saying this it does look fine and I think only an experienced cake decorator would notice it.

Thanks MissBaritone! I agree....it does look a little "patterned". icon_lol.gif
