Please help! I am fairly inexperienced at cake decorating, and I need some ideas. I am making a wedding cake for Sat that is suppose to have roses and hydrangeas with pieces of the hydrangeas and rose petals "falling" down the sides of the cake. I, however, have been VERY unsuccessful at making a single buttercream rose petal. Does anyone have any ideas on technique for this? Or should I just scrap the BC idea and buy fresh flowers (additional cost). I would be so grateful for any help any of ya'll could give me! Thanks!

If you feel good about the rest f the flowers I wouldn't use fresh flowers although I love fresh flowers. try making a real stiff bc roll a small ball in your hands then place your thumb in middle and flatten it pinck one end to a slight point and pinch the rounded end until it is thin and wavy. should lok like a petal if I made any sense. Why don't you make the petals/flowers out of fondant or gumpaste? Much much easier and faster, IMO. Good luck.

I agree that gumpaste or fondant would be easier. So would candy clay, I think. (Maybe even Tootsie Roll Midgees or Starburst candy petals?)

BC rose petals would be really hard, because you usually pipe them around a center. I think RI would still be difficult, but would have the advantage that the petals would be pretty sturdy and could be made ahead of time.
