AThis is probably a silly question, but I'll ask anyways. I have some frozen vanilla American buttercream and was wondering if I can add some powdered cocoa to it. (Thawed of course) thanks!

That's exactly how I make chocolate buttercream. Thin your icing with some liquid (milk, water, etc.) and add cocoa to taste. You'll probably need more than you think is necessary. Enjoy the tasting!

Sort of, @Pastrybaglady. That recipe is denser than a whipped buttercream. It's made with melted butter and can't be whipped to hold air. Buttercream with part or all shortening can whip up nice and light.
