i am in a decorating dilema...my next option to experiment with is using powder color and vodka to paint with on top of chocolate fondant.

i am off to the store to buy red, orange and golden yellow. the gel color didnt show up. i am hoping that the powdered color paint will not be transparent.

can anyone show me a photo of a cake you made using this method? (on choc fondant preferably).

please??? icon_cry.gif

I used powder mixed with vodka to paint the wiskers and nose of my cat cake and did the rest with dry powders. (white on black!)

I just have to say, socake your avatar is hilarious!! icon_lol.gif

About the topic at hand.....I've only ever painted with luster dust & vodka or vanilla, and it works great. I used this method to paint my leaves on my round autumn cake in my photos.

im not sure the powdered colours are going to be any different then the gels, when added to the alcohol. what about using royal icing with piping gel added so it doesn;t dry as quickly, at least that wont be translucent like the colours. kind of like brush embroidery but you will be filling it in completely.

socake, thank you. your cake is awesome by the way. that is what i was hoping to see. the powder color is not translucent. the cake i am doing is a pillow ...kind of a margaret braun (a teeny bit collete peter) style. i am using chocolate fondant but wanted to use separate colors for different patches of fabric separated by royal icing piping painted in golds and silver.

i use luster dust to paint very frequently but i am actually referring to powdered food color which is different than petal dust. i went to a shop today that said over the phone that they carry it, but when i got there they said they dont. so now i am back to square one. ugh, i delayed bying online because i called there last week...now i have to bake tomorrow. ugh, ugh ugh!
