I have read the instructions for how to make fondant bows (the big fluffy looking kind) However, I have a few questions that hopefully someone can answer.....
1) how many loops do you make when preparing for making a bow (I assume you want some extra's in case a few break but I am looking at ballpark here)..
2) how long should you cut the strips to make the loops (I am guessing you need several sizes) or do you just wing it?
3) Any tried and true tips anyone has for success (aside from practice--which I am going to be doing the next few days)?
Thanks All!
For the bow in my photos I made 30 loops. I broke a few and had a few left over. It was for a 6" tier and made most of the strips 5 1/2" long and a few 5" long. I laid them on their side to dry as they seemed to strech when I put them over a pole. When putting the bow together I used a ball of fondant (same color as loops) saturated with water to the consistancy of peanut butter to stick the loops into. Let it dry for a few days and place on cake (I didn't transport it on the cake). HTH
When I do a bow, I usually make 25-30 loops, depending on the size I want. The length of them varies, as does the width. To me, it all depends on what size of cake it's going. I put mine together a little differntly, I use melted chocolate, tinted to the same shade as the bow. Put a pool of in on the cake and assemble from there. You can dip the loops in chocolate as you go and as needed.
Good Luck!

I should point out that I just laid my loops on their sides instead of using a dowel.
